If Ivan confronted any other Shinigami, he wouldn't have even been allowed to speak his last name. I think whoever sent Ivan knows that Ichigo would not WTF own him on sight. Ichigo, unlike most Shinigami, has friends among Hollows. This meeting has been set up in advance and Ivan definitely summoned those Hollows into action to draw Ichigo out into the open. Who cares if an enemy is a VL or not, we know they are just going to get beat anyway. As far as I am concerned, the strongest Hollow that we have seen to date is presently (I hope) still inside Ichigo. That was a VL and it has a full mask! One question: When Ginjou got beat by Ichigo, why didn't his hollow release like Ichigo's did against Ulquiorra (Segunda Etapa)?
I want to know what has become of Ichigo's hollow and I think a trip into HM (with Ivan) is in store for Ichigo and the gang. The two (three?) new characters are convenient plot ploys to relay important information to the Shinigami so that we don't have to waste time.
